I enjoy reading every type of fiction, but my own writing tendencies pull strongly toward fantasy. I've begun writing several second world fantasies. I have notes for historical and epic concepts to follow. If you are particularly interested in any stories here I'm likely looking for test readers, or will be soon.
To try and become a better writer, I have begun writing short reviews and notes on some reads. This is a recent and erratic project but one that I hope posting here will encourage me to follow through on.
The Witch of Stone - In a setting where magic is increasingly hoarded by one ruler, a woman doing her best to support herself and her brother is drawn into a conspiracy to usurp the ruler and discovers the cost of power. The setting is constructed from an eclectic mix of American Southwest and North African influences, and it is one of several projects I have realized was sparked by a desire to write about family and meaning in the face of death. I'm giving copies of this manuscript to test readers right now.
A Cold Skull in a Hollow Land (a working title) - in the wake of a colonial war that left vast swathes of land corrupted and hungry, a jaded veteran doing his best to survive the new way of things is forced to help a band of young misfits try and set things right. The setting is aesthetically influenced by alpine and arctic North America, with a mythological twist drawn from a few Scandinavian cultures. I'm in the early stages of working on the manuscript.
